POINTERS FOR DAILY COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL

  1. Take a moment to look at everything your child brings home.

  2. Ask him/her to tell you about school.  Ask how and why questions.

  3. Give praise if possible- give hope and concern in praise is not possible.

  4. Be realistic in expectations.

  5. If your child has homework, provide a quiet place to work where school materials are kept.  Homework should be reviewed together.  Set aside a time each night that the TV is off and there are as few distractions as possible.

  6. Read to your child every day!

  7. Help or give moral support as needed.

  8. Family members, during homework time, might provide a model of reading.

  9. If you have questions or concerns be sure to talk with your teacher.  Teachers are always available and want to help.

  10. If your child is absent be sure to call for makeup work.  Please pick up the work after school.

  11. Come prepared to the conference to learn about your child's progress.  Ask question to clarify anything that you might not understand.

  12. Volunteer at school whenever possible.  This will give you the best picture of your child's day.
