Overview
Assembly Bill (AB) 2534 and Senate Bill (SB) 848 are California laws that strengthen compliance with educational policies related to employment procedures and educator evaluations. Both ensure that school districts uphold transparency and accountability in hiring, evaluations and HR processes.
AB2534, along with California Education Code section 44939.5, applies to school administrators, teachers and other certificated staff and requires specific reporting, documentation and procedural adherence to state-mandated regulations.
SB848, along with California Education Code section 44051, applies to school classified employees and requires the disclosure of a complete and accurate record of prior employment with Local Educational Agencies, school districts or other educational institutions.
At Eureka Union School District (EUSD), we are committed to implementing the necessary policies and procedures to ensure full compliance.
Employment History & Hiring Requirements
In accordance with California Education Code Section 44939.5 (amended by AB 2534), all applicants for certificated positions at EUSD are legally required to provide a complete and accurate record of all prior employment with:
- Local Education Agencies (LEAs)
- School Districts
- County Offices of Education
- Charter Schools
- State Special Schools
- Other educational institutions, regardless of the length of service
In accordance with California Education Code Section 44051, EUSD may request information from previous educational employers regarding credible complaints, substantiated investigations, or disciplinary actions related to egregious misconduct involving a classified employee. This includes circumstances in which the employee resigned, retired, or otherwise separated from employment prior to a final determination.
EUSD will verify employment history, including obtaining information from previous employers regarding credible allegations, investigations, or disciplinary actions related to egregious misconduct. This requirement ensures that all prospective certificated employees meet state-mandated transparency and accountability standards in the hiring process.
